Hello all, I have a neighbor's Dell Inspiron 531 desktop computer with a bootup failure. When powered, it displays the BIOS screen allowing access to the setup screens as well as the boot device option. In addition, pressing the F8 key does allow access to the expanded options including Safe Mode and the Repair options.

Tried a startup repair and indicated everything was fine. Tried to restore the computer to an earlier time and was told there were no restoration points to reference. I tried Command Prompt and found that I was able to move about the directory tree of the C: drive In addition, I have tried booting the system from Linux live media and have found that even though the machine is equipped with a DVD drive, only iso files burned to CDs will function with this computer. Live DVDs do not seem to be readable.
